We spend a considerable amount of time driving - to work and home, for recreation and travel. Envisioning a completely autonomous world, we’ll be able to rent a vehicle pre-programmed to take us to a specified destination. Drivers will be able to disengage to read the newspaper while the car carries out their commute and seamlessly coordinates to ensure the safety of its passengers.

The GlobalSIP2017 team is inviting Symposium proposals. It will be held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on November 14-16, 2017. As a relatively new signal processing society conference, GlobalSIP2017 has a format different from ICASSP and ICIP. It focuses on signal and information processing with the intent of encouraging industry participation and embracing hot or emerging research trends.

The invention of the automobile has transformed how people live, work, and interact in society. How will signal processing advance today’s vehicles into “smart” cars that are able to think and contribute to the task of operating a vehicle? The December 2016 issue of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine provides a venue for summarizing, educating, and sharing the state of the art in signal processing applied to the domain of automotive systems.
