The IEEE Signal Processing Society invites nominations for the 2018 Class of SPS Distinguished Lecturers (DLs). Per the Board of Governors’ motion, in addition to appointing the normal five Distinguished Lecturers, this year the Society will also appoint a special Distinguished Lecturer in the area of Signal Processing and Machine Learning or Data Science for a two-year term.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) invites nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing for a 3-year term starting 1 January 2018.

The US National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) is pleased to announce the launch of the PerfLoc Prize Competition on March 22, 2017. This competition is about developing the best possible indoor localization and tracking app for Android smartphones. The competition participants are required to use the extensive Android smartphone data repository developed by NIST to develop their apps and have their apps’ performance evaluated through the PerfLoc Performance Evaluation Portal.

Overview
The Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) has allocated $20,000 for Member-Driven Initiatives for the 2017 calendar year. The funding is open to all Signal Processing Society members, Chapters and Committees. However, all proposals must include the involvement of the local Chapter to encourage geographic development. Allocation of funds will be competitive.

The 5th IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing (GlobalSIP) will be held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on November 14-16, 2017. GlobalSIP, as a new flagship IEEE Signal Processing Society conference, focuses on signal and information processing with an emphasis on up-and-coming signal processing themes.
