The Latest News, Articles, and Events in Signal Processing

Face-to-face communication is a highly interactive process where participants mutually exchange and interpret verbal and nonverbal messages.

Communication dynamics represent the temporal relationship between these communicative messages. Even when only one person speaks at a time, other participants exchange information continuously among themselves and with the speaker through gesture, gaze, posture, and facial expressions.

Video-based human action detection has recently been demonstrated to be very useful in a wide range of applications including video surveillance, telemonitoring of patients and senior people, medical diagnosis and training, video content analysis and search, and intelligent human computer interaction.

As video camera sensors become less expensive, this approach is increasingly attractive since it is low cost and can be adapted to different video scenarios.

The purpose of the Designa and Implementation of Signal Processing Systems Technical Committee (DISPS TC) is to promote and support activities of the IEEE Signal Processing Society in the areas of: Design, development and implementation of signal processing systems; Design of algorithms with implementation in mind; Design of software tools and methodologies to support the design of signal processing systems.

Learn about the technological issues facing a broad deployment of 3DTV systems and the signal processing techniques that are used or need to be developed in the area of 3DTV.

Please read the details regarding ICIP2010, SPS's effort to reach out to the chapters and other constituents, and the new SPS FOI at President's Message column of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine (September 2010).

Multimedia Signal Processing Technical Committee (MMSP TC) promotes the advancement of multimedia signal processing technology with special emphasis on the interaction, coordination, synchronization, and joint processing of multimedia and multi-modality signals. In the past, the TC has also served as a home for incubating new areas that do not fall neatly into areas covered by existing TCs.

The Fellow Reference Committee is seeking nominations for four new members of the 2011 Fellow Reference Committee.

As the first step, embracing IEEE’s global strategy, SPM has decided to experiment with a translated reprint edition of SPM. The first edition in simplified Chinese is completed as of this writing and the printed version will be distributed to ICIP attendees in Hong Kong.

Starting from 2008, the Denver Signal Processing Society Chapter created a competitive funding opportunity for undergraduate electrical engineering majors working on their senior projects.
