In response to a call for a lower cost membership option for individuals residing in developing economies, IEEE began offering the new electronic membership (e-Membership) option for the 2011 renewal year.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society invites nominations for the 2012 Class of SPS Distinguished Lecturers (DLs). The deadline for nominations is 1 June 2011.

The nomination form can be found online at this link, along with the current list of DLs and other general information about the program.

The Forensic Science program at Penn State has an opening for a researcher to work on an NIJ-sponsored fingerprint statistics project.

Technical Activities has expanded its volunteer training program to include short, on-line volunteer training modules.

Each module will focus on information or a process that will assist volunteers in their IEEE activities. The goal of the program is to provide key volunteer information in a convenient, user-friendly format. A listing of currently-available modules can be found at: http://www.ieee.org/go/volunteertraining.

With the concept of Grand Challenges, are their areas in speech and language which we might consider? I would like to suggest the following three: (i) Speech-to-Speech Translation, (ii) Speech Recognition for All Languages, (iii) Thought-to-Speech Signal Production.

The Divisions of Critical Care Medicine and Fetal and Transitional Medicine at Children’s National Medical Center are now actively recruiting for the position of Advanced Signals Processing Lab Scientist.
