News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

Society News

IEEE Signal Processing Society Past President Mos Kaveh in his capacity as Chair of the Society’s Nominations and Appointments Committee invites nominations for the IEEE Signal Processing Society Officer positions of President-Elect (term 1 January 2014-31 December 2015) and Vice President-Membership (term 1 January 2014-31 December 2016).

Each year, the IEEE Board of Directors confers the grade of Fellow on up to one-tenth of one percent of the members. The Signal Processing Society congratulates the following 46 SPS members who were recognized with the grade of Fellow as of 1 January 2013.

IEEE has announced the 2013 recipients of the IEEE Medals, Prize Paper, Service Awards, Corporate Recognitions and/or Honorary Membership awards.

The following six Signal Processing Society members received IEEE Awards:

IEEE FOUNDERS MEDAL to LEO BERANEK (LFIEEE) – Founder (retired), Bolt, Beranek, and Newman, Boston, MA, USA

IEEE RICHARD W. HAMMING MEDAL to ARTHUR ROBERT CALDERBANK (FIEEE) – Dean of Natural Sciences, Duke University, Durham, NC, USA

Nominations are due 31 January 2013 for the 2014 IEEE Technical Field Awards (TFA).

Starting now, you can join one or more of IEEE’s Technical Communities at no charge. IEEE Technical Communities are a new way IEEE continues to focus on creating a "neighborhood" atmosphere where technology experts can collaborate on hot-topic issues.

Technical Activities has expanded its volunteer training program to include short, on-line volunteer training modules.

Each module will focus on information or a process that will assist volunteers in their IEEE activities. The goal of the program is to provide key volunteer information in a convenient, user-friendly format. A listing of currently-available modules can be found at http://www.ieee.org/go/volunteertraining.

Our SPS members Sadaoki Furui and \Victor Zue received the 2012 Okawa Prize.

In accordance with the Bylaws of the IEEE Signal Processing Society, I am writing to solicit nominations for the Awards Board for the term 2013-15 and the Nominations and Appointments (N&A) Committee for the term 2013-14. This year the Society will be filling only ONE vacancy on the N&A Committee and TWO positions on the Awards Board. Nominations must be received no later than Wednesday, 21 November 2012.
