News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society
Contributed by Kenneth E. Hild II (TC Liaison to eNews)
The Machine Learning for Signal Processing (MLSP) Technical Committee (TC) changed the title of "TC Secretary" to "Vice-Chair". Moreover, starting in January as a result of a recent election, Paris Smaragdis will serve as the Vice-Chair and Tulay Adali will serve as the Chair of the MLSP TC. We wish to congratulate both of them on their accomplishments and wish them well in their endeavors.
This year's MLSP workshop, which was held in Kittila, Finland at the end of August, was a spectacular success. As we have in years past, we held a data analysis competition (http://www.bme.ogi.edu/~hildk/mlsp2010Competition.html) prior to the workshop and, during the workshop, we awarded each of the top teams with prizes. The prizes this year included N900 high-performance mobile computers, courtesy of Nokia, and travel grants, courtesy of the PASCAL2 Challenge Program. We recently released the test data (231 MB) used in the competition, which can be downloaded for a short time from http://www.bme.ogi.edu/~hildk/mlsp2010.zip .
The 2011 MLSP workshop will be held on September 18-21, 2011, at the Institute of Automation, which is located on the campus of the prestigious Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Beijing, China. Advance registration fees are expected to be CNY 3800 for IEEE Members and CNY 2200 for IEEE Student Members (one CNY is nearly equivalent to 0.15 USD, as of October, 2011). The expected paper submission deadline is in or around March, 2011. Once again, we will have a data analysis competition.
More information on the MLSP 2011 workshop and data analysis competition, as it is made available, can be obtained at http://mlsp2011.conwiz.dk .
