IEEE Launches New 5G Initiative and Seeks Volunteers

IEEE Future Directions has launched the IEEE 5G Initiative and the corresponding IEEE 5G Technical Community to address the challenges associated with 5G and lay the foundation to realize its many opportunities. The initiative is seeking volunteers who are industry leaders, innovators, and researchers from industry, academia, and government to collaborate and exchange ideas in this emerging technology and to help drive standards and deployment.

The IEEE 5G Initiative is looking for contributors in the following areas:

  • To identify 5G technical architectures, challenges, and requirements
  • To develop the future roadmap for anticipated paradigm shifts
  • To contribute to the IEEE 5G Tech Focus, an online original content publication as either an Editorial Board Member or as an author
  • To help organize IEEE 5G Summits, a series of high impact one-day events in emerging technology areas
  • To help engage startup companies
  • To support ongoing 5G standardization efforts

The IEEE 5G Initiative is looking to build a vibrant, global IEEE 5G community at what is a key stage of the definition of 5G.
