Call for Nominations for Editor-in-Chief: IEEE Open Journal of Signal Processing

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) invites nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief for the following journal: IEEE Open Journal of Signal Processing (OJ-SP) for a three-year term starting 1 January 2020. This new gold, fully open access (OA) journal will span the full scope of the Society’s fields of interest.

OJ-SP, which will be fully compliant with funder mandates, including Plan S, will begin accepting submissions in fall 2019 and publish its first articles in early 2020. The new OA journal is calling for nominations for an accomplished expert as Editor-in-Chief (EIC), who will oversee an independent editorial board and an established peer-review process. All articles will be published under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC-BY), enabling authors to retain copyright.

The nominee must be a member in good standing of the IEEE and of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. He/she must have served as an Associate Editor or in an editorial capacity for an archival journal. Desirable qualities include: solid technical accomplishments, leadership, integrity and ethical standards, organizational and management skills, and a vision for moving the journal forward.

The duties include the identification of Associate Editors to serve across the scope of the journal; management of the day-to-day operations of the journal through ScholarOne Manuscripts with the assistance of the Signal Processing Society's publications staff; monitoring of quality and timeliness of publications; identification of areas that require strengthening; and working with the Society and its Technical Committees to achieve these goals.

The Editor-in-Chief will report to the Society's Vice President-Publications. He/she chairs the Editorial Board for the publication and serves on and is a voting member of the Society's Publications Board. The Editor-in-Chief is expected to participate in Publications Board meetings at ICASSP in the Spring and in the Fall at either ICIP or GlobalSIP (with limited travel support covered by IEEE SPS) and in additional teleconferences, contributing to decisions about publication policies and priorities. The term of service will be from 1/1/2020 to 12/31/2022.

Nominations must include:

• name of candidate and nominator
• a brief IEEE-style biography (up to 200 words), including a listing of the candidate’s editorial experience;
• a web address that contains the candidate’s CV (do not send a curriculum vitae with the nomination);
• a brief narrative supporting statement from the nominator(s);
• optionally, a statement of interest of up to 500 words stating the nominee’s vision for the journal.

Criteria for Nomination:

The OJ-SP Editor-in-Chief should have a high level of management experience; should have previously served the Society in some capacity, such as: former Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor, Senior Area Editor, etc.; and should have experience with the ScholarOne peer review system.
